Tuz Gölü, or Lake Tuz (“Salt Lake”), is one of Turkey’s largest and most unique saltwater lakes, located in the central Anatolia region. It lies between the provinces of Konya, Ankara, and Aksaray, approximately 150 km (93 miles) southeast of Ankara. Tuz Gölü is Turkey’s second-largest lake and one of the largest hypersaline lakes in the world. The lake covers around 1,665 square kilometers (643 square miles) and is very shallow, with an average depth of about 1–2 meters (3–6 feet) in the rainy season. During summer, most of the water evaporates, leaving behind a thick layer of salt.
